Hello everyone!

My name is Han Lin, and you can just call me Han. I am majoring in Economics BA and I am currently in my fourth year of study.

Open and distributed learning is very interesting to me because it is very convenient to academic activity and it helps people to succeed by studying according to their preferences. It can let the students work on their timetable and choose where they want to study. They can also provide a platform to help communication, which can provide many conveniences to both the student and the instructor. So its convenience is the most interesting part I have considered and I would like to explore more in this field.

I am a UVic student and the Brightspace is the most familiar digital tool I have used. It is a platform which can present all of the course contents. This means it can provide a way for me to easily way to connect with the course material and hand in the assignments. The Brightspace also provides a platform where I can communicate with my classmates, instructor and any resource I need. In outside of the class, the digital tool UVic can also help me to manage my schedule, finances and to make a plan for my future career. I would say that digital tool have helped me a lot in my college career, it is an important factor that helps me to be succeed.

My understanding to the digital literacy is on how efficiently to communicate with other people through the internet. It is very important because the lack of digital literacy can cause the inefficiency of communication, therefore making the whole online course and communication collapse. Therefore, I believe digital literacy is very important, it is critical to the distributed learning settings.

I have taken several courses at Thompson River University, through their open learning program and transfer back to UVic. In these courses, the instructor provides all of the material in a digital tool which called “Moodle”. I can study the course completely according to my timetable, and study in my own pace and style. It was very helpful, and I can make every course into my familiar pace to study. I can learn a lot of knowledge with nearly no pressure. Throughout this course, I will try to engage and contribute to this learning approach by studying the way its functions and how it works to make student feel could have a better learning experience.
